The United States is the leader in the retail industry. Among the ten largest companies in the world in the retail sector, five of them are American.

The current retail distribution brings together different types of stores:  

Conventional supermarkets: 26,150 stores approx.

They offer a full line of groceries, meats, and produce. Such as Kroger and Publix

Supercenters: 6,500 stores approx.

Stores of more than 50,000 m2. Such as Target and Wal-Mart SuperCenters

Limited assortment supermarket: approx. 3,680 retail stores.

They offer a limited variety of brands, private labels and only one or two other brands. Such as Aldi and Save-A-Lot

There are also some 3,500 Natural/Gourmet Stores, 1,370 Conventional Clubs and some 390 Grocery Stores such as Food 4 Less and Super Save Foods.
